fine dining…

Tuesday 3.20.2012

I think one of the best things about this last Austin trip was finally dining at Uchi. Between the three of us, we had a twelve course meal that we all agreed was probably one of the best dining experiences we’ve had.  The food was so delicious and fresh and the service was timely enough for us to enjoy and savor all the beautiful flavors of each dish. My top favorite, if I had to narrow it down, was definitely the pork belly dish and the peanut butter semifreddo. I’m so happy Uchi has opened another location in Houston. Definitely planning on another visit in the near future.

Austin: day 3

Saturday 3.17.2012

day 3:     Sunday was spent eating Japanese food all day. A quick brunch at Zen where the rice dishes are just as good as it looks and the details in all the light fixtures are oh so charming. I was a bit disappointed that some of the stores I really wanted to visit were closed so early on Sundays, but I did manage to stop by Waterloo Records where Shearwater was having an in-store performance. Sadly, though, no actual vinyls to sift through.  The rest of the night was spent having one of the most delicious meals I’ve ever had at Uchi. See next post for mouth watering details. :)

… I’m a sloucher at heart …

lunch break

Thursday 3.15.2012

day 2:     We met up with Benjamin and Trang for lunch at South Congress cafe before going on our shopping spree. (They have a cute lifestyle blog here) What was intended to be  quick bite ended up being a three hour lunch, but it wasn’t too bad considering they make such delicious bloody mary’s and spending time with friends and good food is always something I enjoy.

Revival Market

Thursday 11.10.2011

There are so many hidden gems in Houston that I need to explore and try out so I’m making it my goal to do just that this year. A very late resolution, but better late than never, right? So I’ve been meaning to try out this spot for awhile now and a cancelled photo shoot today was a good opportunity to relax in the beautiful weather and stop by Revival Market down in the Heights. It’s a quaint little shop that specializes in charcuteries (meats), farm fresh produce, preserves and pickles. If you’re hungry, they offer a small, but very delicious, menu of sandwiches. There’s  a corner in the shop  reserved for lattes and coffee and the guy behind the counter will happily offer you a scoop of crushed ice to go with your drink. I love that the store offers traditional fare in a simple and inviting atmosphere.

For a quick lunch, I ordered the Market BLT with slabs of thick bacon and arugula and a hearty spread that reminded me of a good Japanese seaweed salad minus the fishy after taste. My sister ordered the Revival Dog, which is a monster of a sausage worth every bite. The food is hearty but doesn’t feel like you just ate a bucket of lard. I especially enjoyed the ginger lime slaw. This is a place I’ll definitely be stopping by again whenever I’m craving a delicious sandwich

mussels from Brussels…

Sunday 7.17.2011

hehe…I really couldn’t help myself with that Van Damme pun. It was too easy..

Putting our Groupons to good use at the Broken Spoke cafe. This time, we loaded up on a selection of mussels in these flavors, spicy tomato, garlic butter, and my favorite, a hearty wine reduction with onions and celery that really brings out the sweetness of the mussels. For dessert, profiteroles while a loving couple took the emptying floors to dance to an upbeat Beatles song that I can’t recall at the moment.
