the Guild Shop

Wednesday 9.22.2010

I’ve been obsessed with the Guild Shop. Apparently, its a local gem in Houston, but I’ve only recently just discovered it. My sister and I have been finding all sorts of goodies here. The place is always packed, especially early in the morning on Saturdays, but there’s always so many things to rummage through and possibly take home. So far, we’ve collected a vintage Coca Cola pitcher, a glass cake stand, some amber jars, and I found a set of pencil drawings for only a buck. It’ll be perfect for writing letters.  I love this huge Japanese porcelain bowl. When you tap it, it makes a very sweet tinkling sound. [ I heart little details. ]

I’m sooo tired! Just had a great housewarming party for my sister and her fiancee. All our family and friends came over to the new house bearing well wishes and lots of goodies in exchange  or some delicious food and company. I’m still recovering from a food coma right now. Korean BBQ, roasted pig, my dad’s famous curry, shark fin soup, lotus salad, cakes and macarons, fajitas and mojitos, and Howie’s amazing margaritas.  OY!  A couple of our friends stayed over after hours to enjoy a game of poker and chips and Kevin’s homemade dip. This week will be devoted to working it all out for sure!

Any excuse to use my new cake stand and all that fabric I got on sale at Ikea. This one, I like to call  “grandpa’s  stripes”

Farmer’s market macarons. mmm.

new addictions

Sunday 8.22.2010

I’ve been shopping for house decor and accessories these past few weeks for my sister’s new house. We used up a lot of mileage, but managed to find some spectacular deals at some local thrift and vintage shops. And of course, the always reliable Ross and Marshall’s Home Goods stores did not disappoint either.  You would think the living room or entertainment room is the most important and expensive place in a house, but I beg to differ. So far, we’ve mostly been buying essentials for the kitchen, and the needs and wants just doesn’t seem to end! I think I’ve been substituting my dress shopping addiction for kitchen knick knacks.

Anyway, isn’t this hand painted drink dispenser the loveliest? It’s quite a splurge, but I think the party hostess in me is really considering getting one. And these ceramic fruit baskets remind me of those green plastic ones  that strawberries come in. My mom always bought those when I was younger.
