girl, interrupted

Saturday 10.8.2011

Belated birthday presents from me to me. A haute pink fashion coloring book and interrupted hoops from Anthropologie. I’m editing down my vast jewelry collection that have been accumulating over the past years and keeping only my favorites. I must be getting older because I prefer classic, minimal pieces these days as opposed to gaudy and bohemian. These hoops are just lovely and you can never go wrong with a great pair of gold hoops to complete an outfit.

New beaded necklace that I’ve been wearing too much of lately. And a bursting geode necklace for Cynthia, who collects rocks. I miss my little babies. I’m getting a head start on my Christmas shopping so that I can relax and go on vacation when December arrives.

A few things…

My sister has moved out, so I’m taking full advantage of the mannequin she left behind since mine is all wrapped up with belts and scarves. I’m going to start substituting at high schools soon (and finally! I’m such a procrastinator) so outfits have been on my mind. Ive never been a fan of collared shirts, but I’m beginning to like the classic look lately, especially after I spruce it up with a few pieces. Jewelry is key and classic blazer is very crucial. How to mix school-appropriate clothing with my eclectic sense of style will be a challenge for the next months.

Excited for a jammed-packed month! Crawfish next week with the Phamily and maybe a camping trip in the near future? Just got my new Canon macro lens in the mail. It’s a cheap ol’ plastic thing, but I think I love it! Can’t wait to use it!

My favorite go to pair of Seychelles at the moment. (don’t be afraid of my paasty legs)

A clean, classic plaid with a gold necktie chain. That’s more like it.

New splurges for myself. I decided to go on a jewelry shopping spree this past month. I haven’t bought so much since I used to work at a jewelry store, but I couldn’t resist a few rings that I’ve been eying for a awhile including these lovely rings and a pair of art deco earrings and some more owl necklaces to add to my collection. Also, I’m loving the new collection from Zara, especially this red dress which I wore to the wedding reception. Chic and simple. I’m really holding back the urge to get another one in a nude color.

These pieces from Kim Dulaney’s shop have just the right pop of color to complete any outfit. They’re exotic and interesting and surprisingly affordable. I really love the red ones, I might just have to make a purchase even though I am on a strict no personal shopping diet.

My sis and I took yet another trip to the Guild Shop. Last time we left empty handed, but we felt pretty lucky this time around. I found some more beautiful Japanese porcelain bowls to add to my collection and a distressed leather belt. My favorite find is this old tackle box which I’m working on to restore as a jewelry display shelf. I love the little compartments for my rings and the tiny silver hooks are ideal for hanging those earrings that I always want to wear but are always all over the place in my room.

A gooood Saturday well spent through the vintage shops. Some neat finds, all under $20.

You can’t tell but this Cheshire cat ring is almost the size of a belt buckle. I love love love it! It reminds me of my fat cat Maggie. And another owl ring for the collection. I like the art deco-ness of this design. (I don’t know why I opted for the Georgi O’Keefe theme for the photo. Guess I just had a poppy lying around. No vagina subliminal messages here.)

I’ve been pretty sad ever since my wallet was stolen awhile back. Shopping for the right wallet is hard. :( I was so stoked when I found this vintage Coach wallet. I love its simplicity and logo-free exterior. There was even a cuteĀ  little informational booklet to thumb through.

An early birthday card from Anthropologie. Made me smile. They just want me to spend more moneys. how rude. :) But I will, though. It’s kind of like crack.

Recycled Spanish glass amber jar. sweeeet. Snagged two of them for my sister’s new house. I might take them back one day though. :)
