A few more moments from the dinner party…

This is my favorite photo of the evening. (above)

Tanggibbing, part 1
Monday 11.21.2011
Last Saturday, we had our friends over to celebrate Thanksgiving (or what Roshan likes to call Tanggibbing), one of our favorite holidays. This is my third year hosting the dinner party and I have to say I’m getting the hang of things now. I’m usually stressed out up to the day of the party, but I think I’ve managed to work out most of the kinks and figure out what I need to get done in order to enjoy the dinner with my friends. By Saturday, I managed to be relaxed and all I had to worry about was making the food delicious. There’s a lot of photos I’d like to share so I’m probably going to split this post into two parts.
This year, instead of turkey, we opted for pork and beef, which I find is so much easier to prepare and cook. The beef is a simple salt and pepper rub and the pork is Martha Stewart recipe, slow-roasted with honeyed tangerines (in lieu of kumquats). The Phamily really came together to help. I heart them. For the decor, I decided to give into the recession and pick leaves and branches and only splurge on a bouquet of roses. We picked a few holly branches and sprigs for centerpieces and those velvety red leaves were so lovely against the pale mantle.

Vibrant details from Saturday’s surprise party for Kevin. Didn’t I tell you I was into neon this month? Neon pinks and greens and chartreuse streamers, rainbow candles, bright blue washi tape, fresh greens and purple cabbage, with yellow bowls to match. One trip to Fiesta made preparing for the party a lot more easier. I’m slowly but surely trying to perfect the art of making mojitos. So far, I’ve discovered that Rose’s lime juice gives mojitos that distinct flavor that I really love. That, and simple syrup instead of sugar.

I should not be trusted with a camera when I’m drinking four mojitos…blurriness ensues..

a small gathering
Tuesday 7.5.2011

Happy birthday America! Is it bad that we celebrated by eating French cheese? Oh well. I’ve been such an idiot lately. My camera settings were all out of tune so my photos have been overly saturated and pink whenever I take indoor shots. This makes editing them in a pain in the ass and makes everyone look sunburned. Well now I definitely know better.
We had a small gathering to celebrate the big 4. Beer, cheese, crackers, jumbo hot dogs, and some of Chau’s delicious homemade strawberry shortcake. I’ve been completely obsessed over this new blog, Kinfolk. It speaks to the heart of me. A good meal, good conversation, and friends gathered together. I need more of these. I think I’ll plan a dinner soon, I haven’t seen some of my friends in so long.

Seed the day
Wednesday 2.2.2011

For favors to go, we arranged these vintage demitasse cups with bright mixes of flowers, and some wildflower seeds in these custom made packets (see my template below). My sister has this quirky cute planter that has “Seed the Day” printed on it that gave us such a laugh when she bought it. It ties nicely with the theme. These were fun favors to make, albeit time-consuming, but I like the personal touches in all my little details.

Little Hello Kitty rings for Jocelyn, who nabbed all four of them for herself and her friend. (I saved the green one for myself!) There’s lip gloss inside when you open the top!

It’s Charlie’s first party! Fun with digital photo booths.
Wish tree
Tuesday 2.1.2011

Originally, I planned on manzanita branches for the wish tree, but I found these sparkly branches on clearance at a sidewalk sale at the craft store and couldn’t pass up such a sweet deal. This makes good practice for the larger wish tree I’ll be making for the wedding reception.
