A little something to keep the inspiration flowing. Hopefully, I’ll get to play with a tilt-shift lens soon…

I’m reliving the nineties. Sort of. I’m having a My So called Life marathon this week. It’s one of my all time favorite shows and in my opinion, one of the most well made series ever. This reminds me of staying after school in the art studios, listening to my walkmen, watching MTV with my brother and sister, you know, when MTV was actually amazing with good music videos, Aeon Flux and VJs that you thought were so cool. This scene always makes me swoon like a teenage girl.
People always say the 80s were fun or how they wish they lived during the 50s, but I thinkĀ I’ve always been happy that I grew up during the 90s. I mean, I actually owned a few flannel shirts and always begged my mom for some wide leg jeans whenever we went shopping. And then Clueless came along and I started wearing short skirts and white blouses tucked under sweater vests. Lip liner was ever so popular that I “borrowed” my mom’s lip liner and lipstick and wore it to school. Winona Ryder was the It Girl and Parker Posy was the indie queen. I still watch Party Girl at least a few times every year.

This video has probably been making the rounds on the internet already, but I’ve been sleep deprived and slow all week. This kid never ceases to amaze me. So many reasons why this is my favorite band. This is one of them. They make a m a z i n g music videos. Some of my favorites below.
Probably one of the most well-known video from Radiohead, Karma Police. I remember watching this video on MTV with my brother and sister (when MTV was cool).
I’ll quote Gob, “C’mon!”

Lykke Li – Possibility (stolen from the Bears)
So simple and beautiful and kind of sexy. I love her performance, especially the hand “dance.”
Still a windy day today. Gonna end the night with Zach Galifianakis Live and some chocolate.

This is a total Wes Anderson rip off, but I still heart Elijah Wood.

This is me getting sidetracked from making my end of the year lists. Currently listening to Wild Beasts again while trying to figure out what to fill my new trinket box with . Something new to add to my owl collection, from Mona. It looks like Archimedes and the best part of it all, a HOOT! surprise on the inside!

funny art or balloon torture?

William Lamson. This guy’s work has got me laughing all day today. He has a collection of videos at the Houston Center for Photography in the Artist as a Performer Exhibition right now. It’s really amusing to watch the guy come up with so many ways and build all these contraptions and schemes to pop balloons. In a way, its kind of cruel. There’s one video where the balloons are trapped in an wooden egg-shapped cage. The balloons float up and down the contraption only to be popped at each direction. I like that one balloon escapes its death and flies off into the distant. Some of his videos are simply just pleasing to watch. The one where the two balloons just float around the white space is really nice, and one of my favorite videos is the one where he shoots darts with black ribbons attached to pop the floating balloons. The graphic composition in the end is really cool, especially when the balloon gets caught in between the lines. If you get a chance, you should really check out all the balloon videos at the HCP exhibition. There’s also this amazing video where Lamson uses a plastic gun to smack the living shit out of the balloons. My all time favorite.
