Life

these golden years…

My sister turned her big 30 this year. I think the year has been off to a good start so far. We have lots to look forward to in the future and nothing seems to be holding us back thus far. It’s been a bit tough these last two years, with me trying to figure out what I want to do in life, but I think after getting this teaching job and starting this photography company, I at least have a good idea of where I would like things to go in the future. And the future 30 is not so far for me either. In the meantime, I’ll have to learn to embrace my freckles, the never-ending case of  tangled hair and my affinity for junk food as a good thing. Random images (for some reason, reminds me of my childhood) from our beach house this past March. I love this photo of my sister. It reminds me of days in the sun with my Radioflyer and catching dragonflies and mosquitoes with our brothers, and playing wishbone with blades of grass.

Montrose

This album has definitely grown on me, especially on those 6Am drives to work this past week. This video conjures up memories of 2005 when we were young and we danced at #’s with our mini skirts and got our feet dirty, and we’d hang out at Katz after hours….

reality bites

I’m reliving the nineties. Sort of. I’m having a My So called Life marathon this week. It’s one of my all time favorite shows and in my opinion, one of the most well made series ever. This reminds me of staying after school in the art studios, listening to my walkmen, watching MTV with my brother and sister, you know, when MTV was actually amazing with good music videos, Aeon Flux and VJs that you thought were so cool. This scene always makes me swoon like a teenage girl.

People always say the 80s were fun or how they wish they lived during the 50s, but I think  I’ve always been happy that I grew up during the 90s. I mean, I actually owned a few flannel shirts and always begged my mom for some wide leg jeans whenever we went shopping. And then Clueless came along and I started wearing short skirts and white blouses tucked under sweater vests. Lip liner was ever so popular that I “borrowed” my mom’s lip liner and lipstick and wore it to school. Winona Ryder was the It Girl and Parker Posy was the indie queen. I still watch Party Girl at least a few times every year.

flowering pear trees

These trees should be blooming soon. When I was younger, these white flowers would litter the entire bike path around the old apartment complex we used to live in. I remember picking these flowering branches in my little basket and bringing them home after a ride around the neighborhood. The seeds look like miniature asian pairs and I would always try to find a pair of seeds because it reminded me of cherries. And during those early college years, I remember walking down from the art building and seeing these white trees basking in the light of the street lamps around dusk. The first real owl I ever saw was staring down at me through one of these trees. The owl wasn’t much larger than a cantaloupe, but its big round eyes were scary.

a fine frenzy

It never ceases to amaze me that every time I am in search of a misplaced item in my room, I always end up being completely immersed in a nostalgic frenzy with boxes of old stuff. A few years is such a long time now that I think about it. I can’t ‘t even remember past last year, so it was great going through these old polaroids and letters from friends.
