these old things

Books / Vintage

Spent my Saturday running “errands,” but ended up shopping. [  I’m hiding my credit card tomorrow. ] I couldn’t resist this beautiful beaded purse from Retropolis to add to my collection of “old lady” handbags. Vintage Dior and Bally quilted purse were gifts. Also picked up some awesome goodies from Half Price. The Cabinet of Natural Wonders and two John James Audubon books all with watercolor illustrations and colored plates. There are some really creepy illustrations in the Cabinet of Wonders, including the most vile things of all, caterpillars.

Very ecstatic to receive this letterpress print in the mail today. [ a sneak peek at the details] I’m trying to get all my Christmas shopping done early this year so I can have more time to plan the bridal shower and help with all the wedding. I can’t believe it’ll be February so soon!

I’m finally catching up to all my correspondence. I’ve been a big procrastinator for the past month, but the last few weeks have been keeping me on my toes. A last minute teaching opening has gotten me all in a frenzy of paper work and lesson planning and rubrics. I’ll be very excited if I manage to land this job, but at the same time, I won’t be devastated if not, because I know there’s a long way to go for me and I don’t mind taking my time to get there.

So to say the least, it’s been a stressful week, but I got a chance to relax yesterday after a very good and surprisingly informal interview. There was big sale at Dillards (extra 60% off !) so I picked up a a few floral shorts for the cool weather. They are so comfortable! My sister and her friends and all the bridesmaids got together at the house yesterday to cook up some authentic chile pepper relleno, homemade guacamole, salsa, queso and cupcakes for dessert. Good stuff. Apprehensive about nest week, but looking forward to Halloween!

Did you ever fold your letters into envelopes when you were young? I tried doing here, but I forgot how to fold it so that the flap actually tucks into the letter. I used to do it all the time when I wrote letters to my two BFFs in junior high. This will just have to do.

A quick stitch of Steve Zissou and my favorite Zissou quote. This one’s for my friend Larry who always reminds me of Steve Z.
