Spent Saturday night at a midnight festival at a Buddhist temple downtown for the lunar new year. So much fun. Than we went to Tan Tan for some late night dinner , and I’ve decided that it’s one of my favorite places to people watch. Even at 2 o’clock in the morning, the restaurant was packed with an assortment of interesting people. We decided that the intimidating looking men in the heavy coats at the table behind us were definitely part of a triad. One guy had one of those amazing black Confucius mustaches and burly eyebrows. Two tables from them sat another group of men, one who actually had a qui haircut! (Imagine Jet Li in Drunk Master) By 3 o’clock in the morning a pile of kids, who obviously just came from a night of clubbing, walked in and started a banquet in the back corner of the room. All night, I couldn’t help but think how much Anthony Bourdain would love this place. I mean, the banh bot chien (fried rice cakes and egg topped with fried onions and dikon) is the best in town!

I heart big crowds.

to all you lovebirds.

I think Tet has become my second favorite holiday after Christmas. I decorated the house a week and a half early this year, because I was so excited for the new year. Dad thinks I’m the crazy flower/fruit lady. It might just be my weird thing, but I love grocery shopping. I love to spend time picking fruits and vegetables and taking my time browsing all the different aisles. And especially, when I go to Central market, I just can’t help but leave the store with a bouquet or two. Those huge pears remind of Mrs. Sajda’s still life sessions in high school and Amanda’s pastel drawing. I heart chartreuse.

Current state of mind. reading The Ice Storm by Rick Moody (with a little helping paw from Rudy) and a collection of found love letters. I found another recycled glass (from Spain) jar to add to my collection.
I’m just going to end up being a crazy ol’ bat
who collects jars and cats,
which is not a very good combination come to think of it
(nor a very good rhyme).
But the leaning tower of Pisa for a dollar, how could I say no?

p.s. my fat cat Maggie just climbed into my lap as I’m typing this. ~squeals with delight!
