An excerpt (and coincidentally, also one of my favorite parts). Started off Friday night with an Aurora screening of Sufjan Steven’s feature, The BQE. It was amazing. I love it. And even though the film is inspired by the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, there was something so generic about those images of never ending highways and cars and gray buildings. If being stuck in traffic looks and sounds this good, I’d be on I-45 everyday during traffic hour. I think this is one of those films you have to experience on the big screen for sure.
Ready, set, go
Looking for inspiration and ideas for my next big project. This is the year I’m going to finally paint my bedroom walls, folks. I finally got that amazing duck down comforter I wanted. All I need now is that special lamp and as soon as I clear up space, I’m getting that record player.

Gotta love those pillows. Natalie Wood’s home in Sydney, Australia (via the Selby)

I’m so jealous of her necklace collection. Next big project, replicating that badass cloud necklace.
Auld lang syne…
…”these streets will make you feel brand new, big lights will inspire you…”
Happy New Year!
Some pictures from the last day of 2009

Fireworks lit up the sky after the countdown. Hello 2010. We all watched from the tenth floor of Hotel Sorella. We tried defining the year with those “best of” moments but only came up with a few funny ones, like atomic wedgies and one of those “you ate the floor” falling moments. Oh yeah, I asked everyone if they felt “infinite.” It’s tradition, you know.

Rockin’ the coolest hair beret in the room. I am electric?!

Looks like a Studio 54 moment.

A little bit of Morroco?
Listomania!
My Favorite Albums::: not too much “foke” this year
10. Dirty Projectors – Bitte Orca and Discovery – LP

9. Phoenix – Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

I think the party got hot in May with Phoenix’s and Passion Pit’s fun fun fun releases. (Urban Outfitters mix tape aficionados rejoice! and shoppers begin to ask ‘”What is this amazing shit!? and why are my legs doing a jig?”)
8. Camera Obscura – My Maudlin Career

Ok ok, I complain and complain, but there’s always a soft spot in my heart for Camera Obscura. They had me at Camera. But in all fairness, this my favorite of all their albums.
7. Yeah Yeah Yeahs – It’s Blitz

6. Bat for Lashes – Two Suns

Angelic voice, poetic lyrics, cute fashion sense AND crazy trees on your album cover?! SOLD!
5. Passion Pit – Manners

4. Grizzly Bear – Veckatimest

Look up your own Grizzly Bear rave reviews. There’s plenty to go around so I’ll just say awesome album cover bears!
3. As Tall as Lions – You Can’t Take it With You

I think I’ve instilled the idea that their self-titled album is my all time favorite, so I’ve become automatically weary of any new releases and find myself constantly comparing it to each other. But nonetheless, I still love this album. They make percussion sexy.
2. Wild Beasts – Two Dancers

I’m going to say it. I like this album better than Grizzly Bear’s. Music elitists can hit me with their big words and criticisms later. I’ve got an emotional wall built up to withstand it.
1. The XX – XX

I think, forget JT for a bit and consider XX, as in S.E.X.X.Y. Like listening to a Gainsbourg moment under the sheets of two uninhibited lovers. I’ve listened to this album probably over fifty times in the last three months of its release. Every beat on every song is so goooood.
(I wasn’t a big fan of Animal Collective’s album, but I have to give them props for mind fucking my brains with their magic eye album cover.)

small treasures

New finds. A mini wooden backgammon set and a granite jewelry box with elephant details, made in India. It reminds me of the ivory elephants in A Secret Garden. I love that movie.

I got Moishe slippers for Christmas! RAWR! Maggie just hates them. She attacks it when I walk towards her and make monster noises.
YAAAAWN! It’s late, but I think I’ll finally finish watching YiYi. G’night!
