museum day

I managed to fit in a museum day with a few of the students on the last day of our spring break. Since the school is so far on the north side of town, it’s rare for the art students to get a chance to visit all the diverse museums and galleries near downtown. We did a little museum hopping on Friday and visited about half a dozed places, though most of the day was spent oohing and ahhing at the Menil, of course. There were some amazing photography exhibitions on display in lieu of Fotofest’s Biennial happening at the same time. I have yet to have another chance to visit more of these Fotofest exhibitions, hopefully sometime next weekend.

The photographs by Priya Kambli were a few of my favorites. The colors are so vibrant and the diptych of personal photographs and cultural references to textile and patterns and motifs were so beautifully well-composed. My photos are not doing them any justice right now.
