Life / Parties / Phamily / weekends

I’ve been hanging around my sister’s house lately, trying to get lots of one on one time with the new baby before summer ends and school starts. We celebrated Olivia’s big 1 month with a party for our family. The grandparents cooked up a storm of delicious food last Saturday for their new favorite kid. Similarly to American baby showers, a Vietnamese one month party celebrates the birth of a newborn into the family. After recuperating for a month on a pretty strict meat and rice diet, my sister was finally able to share baby Olivia with the rest of the family in a celebration of roasted pig, Vietnamese desserts and rice plates. My mom handmade the traditional orange sticky rice and a Vietnamese dessert of sesame and mung beans. My dad made his awesome curry, of course, and a stir fried noodles. I’m still recovering from a food coma and the leftovers are not really helping either, but I’m not complaining, for sure! I can’t believe it’s almost the end of July already. Two more weeks of fun and then it’s back to lesson planning. I’ve been putting off work lately since the baby arrived, but have been getting into a good work flow as of late, getting things done in the mornings and relaxing and catching up with TV show marathons in the evenings. Looking forward to going to the museum this week and two art  workshops next week! …
