I’ve noticed this red cardinal around the backyard for some time now, but yesterday was the first time I saw it’s mate. I spent a good twenty minutes bird watching until I realized that there was a nest filled with baby chicks in one of our lemon trees. The two cardinals took turns flying back into the lemon tree as the other one kept close to keep an eye on the cats. Joey gathered all his courage to brave the outdoors and actually jumped towards the cardinals as they flew by. I think I should invest in a bird feeder and a telephoto lens soon, although hese shots have turned out more beautiful then I had hoped.
