film

Two end of the world films that I have been dying to see this year. (I love how the film posters are so similar too!) Another Earth had a limited showing in Houston that I totally missed out on, so I really cannot wait until November when the DVD is released and also when Melancholia comes out in theaters. I love Kirsten Dunst, especially when she does more dramatic roles, and I’ve heard very fantastic things about Brit Marling.   See the trailers here and here

35MM / weekends

Everyone convened at Grand Prize after the Menil party last night. I brought my old Canon but left the flash at home, so most of these night shots are not quite as sharp, but I do love the way that most of them have turned out. I’m kind of diggin’ this Kodak Ektra film. The colors are wildly unpredictable and saturated, but maybe it’s just another one of my old rolls of film that have been exposed overtime. I forget. I really like the one of my friend, Roshan for some reason. The colors are really dreamy and fantastic, and the blurriness reminds me of the Gummo film cover, or the James Blake album.

35MM / Houston

Spent Saturday out and about, catching up on a few exhibits I’ve had my eye on. (Plus, it’s always a good excuse to wear all my sundresses) First, brunch at Downhouse, where the waiters are dapper, the Bloody Marys are spicy and the pulled pork sandwiches are very very delicious.

A large mirror from a neighboring antique store caught our eye, so we made a quick detour there. But the rest of the day was devoted to checking out a few galleries. This installation in the upstairs studio at Lawndale was really fun to immerse ourselves in.

A quick photo of the Menil at night during the Aurora Media Archaeology festival. my shaky hands are no good without a tripod at night.
