after six…

Heterochromia iridium

Sundays are good for several things,

Waking up at noon and going home early from work. Everywhere closes early around five or six so it always feels like everyone is at home relaxing.

Listening to the Moth at six on the drive home.

Hanging out with the kids  right when sunset illuminates the window, and it’s always a rare treat for me to have Joey sit so still for photos. (I can see why my mom thinks Joey is a female cat and always calls him “Joely” now. He’s got an effeminate quality about him. That top picture reminds me of an odalisque.)

My dead lucky bamboo enjoying its last days in the sun.

And best of all about Sundays, Phamily dinners. A collaborated effort by Mom and Dad, spicy noodles with crab meat and tofu (bun rieu).

Sometimes restaurants won’t let me order cheese sandwiches because it’s part of the kid’s menu. Even after I give them the sad puppy eye. Jason’s Deli didn’t deny me my craving though. I’m

Also, a perfect ice cream swirl!

drawings of things I craved during jury duty. When that $6 check arrives in the mail I’m going to buy a pie. Suck it! government!.

I’ve been listening to NPR more often now that they’ve moved all the classical music to a separate station. One of my favorite shows is the Moth which features stories told by various people. There is this one particular story by New York writer, Andrew Solomon, who goes to post Taliban-Afghanistan in search of the artistic community. It’s a great story, and I had to sit in my car in the driveway to finish listening to it. Listen to it here, its 401 Segment 1. And if you have time, story 402 Segment 1 is some pretty funny shit too.

Ohh Summerfest, I am getting too old for this heat. Houston’s third Summerfest had a disappointing lineup this year, so I wasn’t too excited to go, let alone sit on a hard hill and suffer the unforgivable heat. The bands that I was looking forward to see like, Beirut, Chromeo, and Yeasayer did not disappoint. They all sounded amazing live. I think it’s becoming tradition to expect some rain on the second day. I left early this year with promises of some delicious hot noodles at home and water that won’t cost me two bucks.

P.S. I think jorts is the new black this year.
