A burst of cold rain came through town last week and gave me an extra excuse to finally wear this mallard sweater. And a new bandanna for Maggie, since she loves to sleep in the fabric pile so much during sewing sessions.

My Dexter silkscreen print arrived in the mail today. Thanks Roshan! I decided to go with the first season because I like Dexter best when he’s all bloody. The upcoming days will be busy for me. I have lots of things on the agenda, but somehow I found time today to buy a straw fedora. Random.. Big dinner party this weekend. Excited!

Pauline: There are living among two dutiful daughters.
Of a man who possesses two beautiful daughters
You cannot know nor yet try to guess
The sweet soothingness of their caress
The outstanding genius of this pair is understood by few,
They are so rare.
Compared with these two, every man is a fool
The world is most honored that they should deign to rule
And I worship the power of these lovely two
With that adoring love known to so few.
‘Tis indeed a miracle, one must feel, that two such heavenly creatures are real
Hatred burning bright in the brown eyes with enemies for fuel,
Icy scorn glitters in the gray eyes, contemptuous and cruel.
Why are men such fools they will not realize,
The wisdom that is hidden behind those strange eyes and
These wonderful people are you and I.
[ Every I watch this movie, i just want to go and hug my mom after wards]

My love of tea and Japanese tableware on display. Imagine my excitement when I scored two cast iron tetsubin teapots at Ross, of all places!
Mexican guavas. They were packed in the back corner of Central Market’s fruit and produce section. I couldn’t resist its fragrant aroma.
My sister’s little watermelon sprout. It’s growing a few millimeters a day.
Spent the Halloween weekend chilling at my sister’s place, trying out new recipes, sipping hot tea while my sister made potpourri out of hydrangeas and Thailand orchids and watching old Hong Kong films from the 90s. I forgot how much I love those. Then we made a midnight trip to Walmart, which meant scavenging in the $5 DVD bin and loading the cart with things I didn’t plan on buying in the first place. (Big Trouble in Little China in BluRay! sweeeet)
Oh yeah, Happy Halloween! It’s not my favorite holiday of the year, but going trick or treating with the little cousins tonight makes me reminisce about my own childhood. good times.

I’ve been excited to try out these recipes for awhile now. I’ve always been a fan of pate chauds and was very surprised to find out that they are ridiculously easy and quick to make. So voila! my very first pate chauds, or what my mom likes to call pate so. They were so delicious! I think I’ve recruited two fans already. Also been meaning to try out the Barefoot Contessa’s truffle filet of beef sandwich recipe. Alas, I forgot to write down the ingredients when I went grocery shopping, so I just kind of winged it. I ended up buying the wrong cut of beef and there was no truffle butter to be found, so I substituted it for some spicy German mustard. Still pretty delicious and an easy go-to recipe for future lunches.

My dad’s latest harvest of peppers. Joey like to grab the ends and throw them in the air for fun.
