funny art or balloon torture?

William Lamson. This guy’s work has got me laughing all day today. He has a collection of videos at the Houston Center for Photography in the Artist as a Performer Exhibition right now. It’s really amusing to watch the guy come up with so many ways and build all these contraptions and schemes to pop balloons. In a way, its kind of cruel. There’s one video where the balloons are trapped in an wooden egg-shapped […]

Tara Donovan. Amazing amazing amazing. Her installations are entirely made up of mundane objects like straws, tar paper, pencils stubs, and buttons. The one with the scotch tape below is so delicately intricate and beautiful. I would imagine experiencing the pieces in person to be like stepping into a futuristic, sterile coral reef of some sort. The lightness of each object, like the straws, the plastic cups, and the scotch tape, work together so harmoniously […]

They’re really delicate and beautiful in person. I know butterflies are often thought of as serene and pretty little things, but […]

Taking art to another level, Miranda July incorporates people into her pieces and then allows them to take a piece of that creation home with them through the use of snapshots and video or whatever form of moment-capturing device they have handy. If you […]

images courtesy of the artist, Cheeming Boey Some refreshing art from a guy called Boey. I love it when art is made from everyday objects, like these styro foam cups. I’ve been to my fair share of art exhibits to realize that sometimes, a yellow canvas on a wall is just bullshit, or an afterthought from an artist who is all about “conceptual” art and Nietsche, but who is just too lazy to actually get […]
