fine dining…

I think one of the best things about this last Austin trip was finally dining at Uchi. Between the three of us, we had a twelve course meal that we all agreed was probably one of the best dining experiences we’ve had.  The food was so delicious and fresh and the service was timely enough for us to enjoy and savor all the beautiful flavors of each dish. My top favorite, if I had to narrow it down, was definitely the pork belly dish and the peanut butter semifreddo. I’m so happy Uchi has opened another location in Houston. Definitely planning on another visit in the near future.

No grading to do today. I’m enjoying this beautiful Sunday for a bit and then it’s back to photo editing and maybe a few more blog posts for the week. Mag and Joe will keep me company. This spring break has come and gone too soon.

Austin: day 3

dining out / weekends

day 3:     Sunday was spent eating Japanese food all day. A quick brunch at Zen where the rice dishes are just as good as it looks and the details in all the light fixtures are oh so charming. I was a bit disappointed that some of the stores I really wanted to visit were closed so early on Sundays, but I did manage to stop by Waterloo Records where Shearwater was having an in-store performance. Sadly, though, no actual vinyls to sift through.  The rest of the night was spent having one of the most delicious meals I’ve ever had at Uchi. See next post for mouth watering details. 🙂

… I’m a sloucher at heart …

weekends

A few more pictures from the Poshmark party on Saturday evening. Can’t wait to see all the silly photo booth pictures we took together. Afterwards, Trang and Benjamin took us out to a local bar on Rainy Street where the heaters were on full blast, fortunately. Before heading back to the hotel, we picked up some SXSW guys and kindly gave them a ride to Sixth Street. They were from Slovenia with deep accents, so yeah, the night could have ended like a scene out of Hostel. Are we getting too old for our own good because we ended the night pigging out to fast food and watching Q’Viva?

March madness

When things are slow here, it really feels like time has stopped, and when things finally pick up, it moves at such a fast pace that I can’t keep up. Playing catch up this month (from left to right) with Instagrams:

… March is always a busy month for me, especially when it comes to birthdays. I still haven’t fully recuperated from Christmas and early winter birthdays, so I’m definitely falling short on gifts this month for a couple of friends. It’s at the top of my to-do list for sure. In my family, we don’t generally do birthday gifts, we usually wait to go bat-shit  crazy on Christmas, but it’s always nice to fit in a dinner with the entire family once in awhile. We took our parents to the “Old Man’s” beignet cafe after dinner. The crowd was a bit noisy and young, but the parents really enjoyed the freshly battered and fried beignets and coffee …

… bringing my work with me always, but I managed to fit in time for a buttery croissant at Agora. (Yes, that is an old ass laptop. You jelly?)…

… new record shop in town. It’s got a cozy corner where I can listen and test out vinyls before purchasing …

… falling for red hues lately …

… welcome Spring! I love seeing all the pretty blooming trees around town this past week …

… pit stop at MAM’s as always …

… I’ve been so preoccupied with work and Austin that I totally forgot to mention the Radiohead concert. Thom Yorke, can you be any more bad ass? Accompanied by Roshan and AJ, we went to see our first Radiohead show together, and I can’t even begin to express how cool that was to finally see Thom Yorke perform and his lazy eye. Read awesome review here.
