sweet deals

in the Mood for...

The Blockbuster store by my house is closing down, so it was an awesome opportunity to rack up on some DVDs for cheap. I bought these for less than $3 each and scored an even sweeter deal with these mini peach sours at Walgreens. Do you looove my new manicure? I’ve been trying to keep healthy by running the park at least three times a week (with a little motivation from some friends). These peach snacks are a diet no-no, but I really couldn’t resist and I promise I’ll only eat one a day!

Charlie …  the amazing Cheshire cat!

Testing out the new lens. And being vain.

A view across the fence… I love the way old oak trees branch out (but I hate the way its pollen litters my car in the morning).

delicious birthday cake from Jungle Cafe

I’m craving sushi so bad right now, I could eat these plastic ones.

crawfish season

food

yum yum yum. It’s officially crawfish season down here in the South! I’ve been badgering my family to make some for the last few weeks, so my sister decided to make some for her birthday this past weekend. There is really no right way to make crawfish, I’ve had them so many ways, but the important thing to always keep in mind when making your crawfish people: heat.

Anyway, we had a couple of our friends over for my sister’s birthday to eat and have a few rounds of poker. I made crab cakes for the first time and some bacon wrapped water chestnuts.Good company, good food, and another excuse to try out my new Canon lens.

A sprinkle of cayenne to give my crab cakes a little punch of flavor and color.

Hungry boys gathered around the food…

These raspberries were especially sweet this time.

A Guide to Making Crawfish:

STEP 1: Preparation is key.

ingredients, check.

spices, check.

beer, check.

STEP 2: Add just the right amount of citrus. ( I love the they way my mom makes them. She throws in a few leaves of grapefruit and lemon leaves)

STEP 3: Boil those babies!

STEP 4: Dig in!

fashion / jewelry

My sister has moved out, so I’m taking full advantage of the mannequin she left behind since mine is all wrapped up with belts and scarves. I’m going to start substituting at high schools soon (and finally! I’m such a procrastinator) so outfits have been on my mind. Ive never been a fan of collared shirts, but I’m beginning to like the classic look lately, especially after I spruce it up with a few pieces. Jewelry is key and classic blazer is very crucial. How to mix school-appropriate clothing with my eclectic sense of style will be a challenge for the next months.

Excited for a jammed-packed month! Crawfish next week with the Phamily and maybe a camping trip in the near future? Just got my new Canon macro lens in the mail. It’s a cheap ol’ plastic thing, but I think I love it! Can’t wait to use it!

My favorite go to pair of Seychelles at the moment. (don’t be afraid of my paasty legs)

A clean, classic plaid with a gold necktie chain. That’s more like it.

one fine day

A thunderous storm woke me up around 4AM this morning and all I could think about was whether the rain would burn my skin from the recent nuclear explosion in Japan. Silly. Well, the weather cleared up beautifully by the time I came home from work so I immediately took the opportunity to finally take Mikey out for a ride through the neighborhood. I had my iPhone in hand for some spontaneous photo shoots and Maggie in the basket. Well, she decided to jump ship at the very last moment, but enjoyed her brief stay in the basket for a time.
